Covered by silk tulle with embroidered text grid “decolonise” by Studio Sejauh

Woven by Craft Denim from cotton and tencel, this jacquard textile carries the Satu Dua Tiga motif designed by Ira, co-founder of Craft Denim. The cloth is dyed with clove and fixed in iron, giving it a brown tone.Over this surface, flowers are hand-painted with soda ash and bark dye, while a spiral motif is painted with bleach, acts of layering and extraction that reveal the fabric’s evolving memory.

A fine silk tulle overlay covers the textile, embroidered with a text grid reading decolonise, created in collaboration with Sejauh. The transparent layer both protects and questions: it veils and reveals, echoing the tension between visibility and silence within histories of craft, authorship, and exchange.

Through these intersecting gestures, weaving, painting, bleaching, embroidering,  the work reflects on translation as both material and conceptual practice. Each technique becomes a language of transformation, where collaboration turns into a way of unmantling hierarchies and reclaiming shared authorship.
