Building a fairer fashion system together
The fashion industry is undergoing rapid change. From designers to makers, from manufacturers to brands, retailers, and consumers: initiatives are emerging everywhere that show that things can be done differently. That things must be done differently. At the same time, we all know that the current system is complex and rigid, and that this requires more than just isolated innovations. It requires collaboration, openness, dedication, and the courage to face the difficult questions head-on.

At State of Fashion, we connect fashion—explicitly and honestly—with the social issues and challenges of our time. Our leading question is simple but urgent: how can fashion and textiles contribute to a better world?

From Platform to Biennale
We bring together visionary ideas from home and abroad in all of our activities. Together with our audience and community we explore alternatives to the dominant industrial fashion system that causes pollution and inequality worldwide.

As a platform, State of Fashion organises symposia, artistic projects, research projects, social collaborations, educational programmes, podcasts, learning pathways and inspirational visits.

During the international State of Fashion Biennale in Arnhem, we work with a team of curators to focus on an urgent theme and provide a platform for our broad network of knowledge and makers. The next edition will take place from 14 May 2026 to 28 June 2026 – the programme will be announced in November 2025.
