In the Spotlight: Button Masala

Anuj Sharma is from India and mainly works in the area of sustainability. Sharma entered the fashion world in 2007, after his post-graduation studies in Apparel Design at the renowned design school, National Institute of Design (NID), India, and a Masters in Sportswear Design at the University of Derby, United Kingdom. Sharma has come up with a unique method to construct clothes without any machine, tools or stitches: Button Masala.

Sharma is frequently invited as a workshop leader and lecturer, for example at the Adidas headquarters in Germany, in South Africa as a part of the India Africa programme, the India Design Forum at NCPA, Mumbai, and the World Economic Forum at Davos in Switzerland.

Button Masala is one of the easiest possible ways to create products or garments using only buttons and rubber bands. The technique involves no investments in machinery and tools and can be learnt and practiced everywhere.
