New Business Models: Matti Liimatainen

Matti Liimatainen is a Finnish fashion designer, who specialises in conceptual and computational design. He is currently working on Self-Assembly, a clothing label which makes ready-to-assemble garment construction kits. In addition, he is persuing his doctoral studies at Aalto University in Helsinki, with a research focused on algorithmic design. Prior to starting his own company, Liimatainen worked for multiple international labels, such as Aitor Throup Studio and KTZ.

All Self-Assembly products are made with a special seam that allows the garments to be assembled by hand, without any tools or machinery. The products are delivered as loose, flat-packed components, which need be joined together, before they are ready to be worn.
