ONsite: China
For ONsite China, chuān project turns to Heilongjiang Province in the far north, away from the garment industry’s southeastern coastal centres, tracing a winter route from Qiqihar to Heihe and across the border to Blagoveshchensk. In a region shaped by extreme cold, clothing becomes more than protection: it registers movement, separation, exchange and imbalance across systems of industry, migration and trade.
Responding to the Experience pillar, the project foregrounds embodied, sensory engagement with these conditions and trajectories. The research also culminated in a public event and performance in Hangzhou. For the exhibition, chuān project presents an installation that traces this journey through attention and reflection.
ONsite
ONsite builds on the international collaborations initiated in the previous Biennale, expanding them into three new research-based trajectories that examine specific sites within the global fashion supply chain.
Co-developed with local interlocutors, each ONsite acts as a situated research site for a designated resident, who studies the field from both within and outside. Together, they connect regional practices with critical inquiry while tracing how fashion’s systems operate, adapt, and transform worldwide.
A representation of the ONsite China is on display in the Eusebiuskerk during the run of the Biennale in Arnhem.
